Greatsword Tank

This is the best build for the average Pug runs, with un matched positioning and agro control you will easily be able to control the pace of the battle with this build, using relentless rush to open fights and position where you want to be fighting, using rupture to help with initial grouping and taunt, popping calamity counter to block those initial hits while the healer gets their heals down and taunting any stragglers, now you can either cc lock the mobs in place my rotating though your hammer abilities using 2 light attacks between each ability for the cooldowns or just keep slapping away with your greatsword for that active blocking with defensive stance, when you get more comfortable you can use relentless rush to put yourself into onslaught stance for some extra damage.

If you want to run Flail or SnS instead of hammer then look at its respective build for information / skill trees , essentially all take weapons are interchangeable.

Attributes

Due to grit being attached to heavy attacks on 300 con this is the best breakpoint for you to be hitting , when you reach 725 gear score you will have more points to allocate , Ideally we would look at going for 350 strength and keeping 300 con for that damage boost. With almost all 725 gear being magnify though , youll need to go 300 str 350 con with str hammer and gnufish to reach these break points.

Heavy Armor

As always with armor you are looking at as much enchanted ward as possible while having your refreshing stacks , slash conditioning is very strong on tanks as most trash mobs will do slash damage, giving you essentially 5 moonstones worth of protection. The standard for tanking is heavy armor but when you are more comfortable at tanking you can look at going light or medium for more damage and mobility.

Remember perks are the key , perks are more important than gear score, you don’t have to have Bis gear score , substitute with what you have available like azoth crystal gear

Light Armor

Light armor offers significantly less protection but give 20% more base damage and a high level of mobility , usually only recommended for experienced tanks & not for all situations.

Weapons

You can essentially use any greatsword but Serenity is generally the best, if you want to use another one look for refreshing move , trenchant strikes or trenchant recovery , on the hammer you’re mainly looking for sundering clearout > refreshing move > thwarting strikes.

The Greatsword is a powerful weapon with impressive cleave damage, making it a strong choice for dealing with groups of enemies. You can engage the fight by using Relentless Rush to get between enemies, after which, use Roaring Rupture to pull mobs closer to you and use Calamity counter to taunt enemies and to shield initial hits, after this you continue to do only heavy attacks until all enemies are dead. If fight is too long or you feel in danger, you can use Calamity Counter again, and hold it, to re-taunt and block more damage.
